Citizens Advice Central Dorset requires an Advocacy Worker based in BCP.

The advocacy project is a new 5 year project funded through The National Lottery Community Fund.

The service will provide information advice and support  to Gypsy Roma and Traveller (GRT) communities in Dorset and Bournemouth Christchurch Poole (BCP), both those living on sites, those living in the wider community, and those ‘on the road’  ie. passing through the area.  It will also raise awareness of the issues faced by these communities. 

The project is led by Citizens Advice Central Dorset working with two key delivery partners, Citizens Advice Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole and Kushti Bok, a Dorset-based  charity, made up of Gypsies, Travellers and others which aims to give a voice to the Gypsies and Travellers of Dorset. 

There will be a small team of advocacy workers employed by Citizens Advice. They will  provide advice, information and support, including casework, to Gypsies and Travellers. This will include representing the interests of clients to statutory agencies and service providers and empowering members of the communities to develop a stronger voice.

The post requires experience of advice work within the voluntary sector (particularly in welfare benefits, debt, and housing) and a knowledge and understanding of the different Gypsy and Traveller communities within the UK and of the issues that affect their lives, either from a professional capacity or as part of the Travelling community.

Hours: 18.5 hours/wk
Salary:  £14.96 per hour
Location: Hybrid / Dorchester or other CACD office

Citizens Advice Central Dorset requires an experienced Business & Partnership Manager

We are looking for someone to join our senior management team as a Business & Partnership Manager.

The role will be crucial in helping to set the direction of a vital community based local charity. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate how they can successfully secure funding to deliver our core service and projects across a wide range of subjects and geographical areas within Central Dorset. They must be confident to build strong partnerships with the most diverse group of stakeholders and understand our core Equity, Diversity and Inclusion values. Working with the Trustee Board and Chief Officer, they will also be able to oversee the production and maintenance of our Business Plan which will demonstrate our values as well as determining our aims as a charity over the coming years.

Hours: 30 Hours per week

Citizens Advice Central Dorset covers the North Dorset, Sherborne, Dorchester and Weymouth & Portland areas and we require a peripatetic Supervisor to cover our main offices and outreach locations who can be flexible in their approach to delivering high standards of supervision in a busy environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to fit in with existing teams and be flexible in their approach. It is expected that the cover will predominantly be needed in the North Dorset and Sherborne area but flexibility to cover the other offices will be desirable.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team and the role will require you to run the daily multi-channel advice session (telephone, email, webchat, virtual and/or physical face to face) and at times to supervise a team of remote working volunteer advisers and ensure service delivery and quality standards are maintained. The successful candidate will have generalist advice experience in a Citizens Advice setting and be able to demonstrate good experience of advice delivery and a record of supervising busy advice sessions in a supportive manner whilst maintaining high standards.

Citizens Advice Central Dorset requires a Debt Caseworker specialising in the energy sector to work and join our team of experienced advisors.

We are seeking a dedicated Debt Caseworker to work within the Citizens Advice Dorset Energy Team. Focusing on cases connected to energy, you will work closely with clients, providing them with comprehensive debt advice linking with the wider support offered by the Energy Unit. 

The service you provide must comply with FCA Standards and as such you would need to be accredited or working towards achieving accreditation status. Ideally you would have experience of working in Citizens Advice or a similar setting.
You should be comfortable delivering high quality advice using telephone, email and video conferencing as communication channels and some face to face appointments with clients may also be required. We have offices in Dorchester, Gillingham, Sherborne and Weymouth.

Location: Hybrid (Dorset)

Hours: 30 Hours per week 

Salary: £24,274 actual / £29,937 FTE

Term: 1st June 2024 to 31st March 2026

The Improving Lives through Advice is a new 5-year project supporting us to move to a more prioritised approach so that our advice becomes more targeted to marginalised people and communities in Central Dorset. 

We will achieve this by working with partner organisations to identify and breakdown barriers to access, piloting and evaluating new approaches, and by testing and embedding ways to involve members of specific communities in our decision making.

The Access Co-ordinator will be employed by Citizens Advice Central Dorset and will be responsible for implementing the project, ensuring outcomes are met, reporting on the project, developing partnerships and working with other community groups to identify and breakdown the barriers to accessing advice, piloting new approaches and evaluating their success.

Key to this role is experience of project management and partnership working, and an understanding of the barriers and challenges faced by marginalised communities in Dorset. 

The Access Co-ordinator will be based at one of the offices of Citizens Advice Central Dorset (Dorchester, Sherborne, Gillingham or Weymouth) with the opportunity for a flexible work pattern. Travel across Central Dorset will be required.
